CRM 4.0 Data Migration Manager in Multitenancy Environments

If you are undergoing a multi tenancy deployment of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 where you are required to migrate content for more than one organization using CRM 4.0 data migration manager you should know that the Data Migration Manager can be used only for the organization you selected upon the initial configuration.

If you want to use it for others, then you will have to install it either on another machine or completely uninstall it and reinstall it again for the other organization.
Before reinstalling the application, you will have to manually delete the database or rename it if you are willing to use the same instance name of the SQL Server, because the setup will try to create a new one, and it will fail if the database already exists. The database that needs to be deleted is the one with the name MSCRM_MIGRATION, and you must also rename the mdf and ldf files associated with the database.

It would be a good idea for the product Team to incorporate a feature in future releases of CRM where the user can reconfigure the application and use it for another Organization without going through the hassle of uninstalling or installing another instance.

Cheers,

The Data Mapping engine in Data Transformation Server allows any-to-any transformations between different data formats. It includes complex data functions such as string, math, and conditional operations as well as DB and XML file look-up.
